About
I am a solo developer based in Bucharest, Romania. I am passionate about playing and making games.
The idea for Frontworks came while I was working on my bachelor thesis. I started building a city sim, inspired by Dwarf Fortress and by wanting to make an ant sim. Then I thought: maybe the ants should be robots. Maybe robot ants should do automation. I spent a year on that strange hybrid — you managed the needs of ants who built a factory, for no particular reason beyond the money they made selling what it produced. I got bored pretty fast, so I added enemies that spawn and attack your base, and turrets to hold them off.
Defending the base became the best part, but it was still missing something, so I added soldier ants. Moving those soldiers around and sending them to fight was the most fun I ever had with that game — and that told me which game I was actually making. Instead of refactoring a hexagonal colony sim into an RTS, I started over. That is Frontworks. I think those two genres are meant to come closer together than they have so far.
